“It Was a Sunny Wednesday Afternoon”

“It was a dark and stormy night,” wrote Madeline L’Engle.

But it was a sunny Wednesday afternoon when we held our self-made production of A Wrinkle in Time during recess. Our class spent our morning invading the supplies room for strands of cloth to add last minute touches to our costumes and helping others run through their lines. We had held auditions at recess a few weeks before prior, and the roles were all set. As one of the directors of the play, I had no lines to remember. All I had to do what hope our actors would show up to school that day - thank god that wish was granted.

The clock struck twelve far too soon. A generous amount of classmates showed up, and the air tingled with excitement.

We stumbled through our lines and we witnessed some costume malfunctions. We laughed all that off, and we were rewarded by the thundering applause at the end.

Last night, these memories buried in the back of my mind resurfaced and it occurred to me to read my manuscript again. Pulling out my computer, I typed in address to my old school Google Account, only to be met with the blaring red words on the screen “Couldn’t find your Google Account”.  My account had been deleted and with it vanished any evidence of the play.

Nevertheless, I still remember that sunny Wednesday afternoon, when every moment felt electric.”
